The environmental pollution caused by the sixth naphtha cracker fire

     According to the Fire Station in Yunlin County said that the sixth naphtha cracker fire was happened at 20:12 pm in 25th, July 2010. At the time most of residents were watched TV. Suddenly they heard a deafening sound and ran out of home. In the evening, Huang Yoa-nan who is sixth naphtha cracker assistant manager said the fire was caused by pipeline leakage and assured that they would put out t he fire within twenty four hours. And he said the heavy fuel combustion that would produce carbon dioxide not cause pollution and not affect our health.

     However, residents thought that if it rains, the dust was generated by the combustion of the fire which would affect nearby fish pounds and produces. They request Formosa Petrochemical Corporation must be responsible for all produces which were damaged by the dust in the future. According to scholars studied that the heavy fuel combustion would generate sulfur dioxide which is the main reason to form acid rain.


The sixth naphtha cracker fire caused large amounts of toxic gases that polluted the water with the rain fell. That caused two thousands of ducks which drank the water and died in 27th, July, 2010. And owner said as long as the ducks drank the water would be dead.
